Office of Professional Experience
Gain real-life professional experience in the classroom by observing master teachers, tutoring students and applying your ASU coursework.
Internships provide students with the opportunity to gain real-world experience in their chosen field while still in school. They typically involve working for a company or organization for a set period of time, usually a semester or a summer, and can be either paid or unpaid. Internships may be part-time or full-time and can be completed during the academic year or over the summer break. Access thousands of internship postings through Handshake.
If you want to receive academic credit for your internship, make sure to check with you academic advisor to learn more about the process.

Micro-internships are short-term, project-based work experiences that typically last a few weeks to a few months. They are often remote and can be completed alongside a student's coursework. Micro-internships can be a great way for students to gain experience in their chosen field, build their network, and earn money. They are also a good option for students who are unable to commit to a traditional internship due to other commitments. Students at ASU can access micro-internships through Parkey Dewey.
During my internship at Nationwide Insurance I had the opportunity to apply machine learning algorithms in an industry setting. I worked on developing unsupervised machine learning models to detect anomalous ledger entries in financial data. I found that I enjoy applying advanced statistical methods in applied settings. Many of the data analysis and cleaning skills that I utilized during my internship I was able to learn and master during my coursework at ASU!
